Dennis Township Recreational Facilities

New Playgrounds At Rec Complex - Two new playgrounds, featuring BCI Burke equipment, were recently installed at the rec complex. The preschool age playground is for children ages 2 through 5 (adult supervision required) and the school age playground is for children ages 5 through 12 (adult supervision recommended). For safety reasons, and to keep the equipment in good working order, it is important that each playground be used only by the age group it is designed for.

The Township of Dennis has several Recreation Facilities which are located throughout the Township. The main facility is located at 565 Dennisville Road in South Dennis, and is known as the "Dennis Township Recreation Park". This facility houses the main recreation building with gymnasium space for basketball, volleyball, and roller skating.

The park has an outdoor picnic pavilion, roller hockey rink, three (3) soccer fields, five (5) baseball fields, one (1) tennis court, two (2) basketball courts, and playground areas for children under five (5) and for those under twelve (12) years of age. The park is open daily with various activities scheduled from 10:30 am until 8:00 pm.

The Chestnut Street Park is located on Chestnut Street in Belleplain, and contains the Home field for the Dennis Township Blue Devils Football teams, a baseball field, basketball courts, picnic pavilion and two playgrounds. All outdoor park areas are open from dawn to dusk.

Things To Remember

  • Bikes and motorized vehicles (including mopeds) are not permitted on the new fitness path at the Complex. In fact, all motor vehicles are only allowed in the designated parking areas.
  • Parking along Dennisville Road in front of the Complex is also not permitted. Vehicles parked in this area will be ticketed by the State Police.
  • Dogs must be leashed at all times when brought to any township facility. Owners are also required to pick up after their dog.
  • Anyone caught vandalizing or defacing township property, will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

Lightning Prediction System

Lightning image

The Township of Dennis has recently installed a Thorguard Lightning Prediction System at the Recreation Complex on Dennisville Road. The system is designed to predict a lightning strike within a defined geographical region. Once pre-established detection limits are reached, the system activates a series of horns and strobe lights to warn those in the park to seek shelter. Since this system is automated it can provide a warning even when there appears to be no evidence of lightning.

The system will be on alert during the hours of 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM. When conditions for a lightning strike exist, the system will sound a 15 - second blast from the horn cluster and the strobe light will turn on. Anyone who hears the signal should immediately stop any outside activity and seek shelter. One danger has passed, the horns will activate an all-clear signal of three short 5 - second blasts and the strobe light will turn off.

*No system is one hundred percent accurate. Everyone should immediately seek shelter any time they believe lightning threatens them, even if a signal has not been sounded.

FYI

Many of the youth leagues listed in this brochure are for Dennis Township residents only. To be a resident of Dennis Township, you must officially and legally reside within the township's boundaries. Falsification of a registration form will result in immediate removal from the league/activity with no money refunded.

Township Web Site

The Dennis Township website, www.dennistwp.org provides another avenue for residents to find information on township services, programs and activities. Visit the site on a regular basis and stay up to date on the happenings of the recreation program.

Registration Policy

The municipal auditor has directed this office to deposit (within a 24 hour period) any monies collected for recreation programs. Since each program is run through an association and is made up of volunteers, we try very hard to accommodate the treasurers of these associations, as they are the persons responsible to deposit the monies. Therefore, there are specific dates and times set up for registration with no exceptions.
