Strong winds are expected to occur Friday afternoon through Friday night across the region, especially during the evening and early overnight hours.

Here are the key messages for this event:

  1. A cold front will cross the region by daybreak Friday. Winds will gradually increase throughout the day behind the front to around 20 to 30 mph with gusts exceeding 45 mph into the afternoon hours. Wind gusts of 50-60 mph will be possible area wide into the evening and early overnight hours. A High Wind Watch has been issued for the entire area from noon Friday through 4 AM Saturday (see attached graphic).
  2. Scattered tree damage and power outages are likely with these strong winds.
  3. Gale-force winds are expected to develop across Delaware Bay and the Atlantic waters, with the potential for a few hours of gusts near 50 kts into the evening and early overnight hours. A Storm Watch has been issued for all of our coastal waters from Friday afternoon through early Saturday morning.
