Route 47 northbound and southbound are scheduled to have overnight closures and detours beginning Monday as a maintenance roadway improvement project advances in Cape May and Cumberland counties.
Beginning at 6 p.m. Monday, September 28 until 6 a.m. Tuesday, September 29 and continuing Monday through Friday nights at the same times through the end of October, Route 47 is scheduled to be closed and detoured in one direction at a time between Route 347 in Dennis Township, Cape May County to Hunters Mill Road in Maurice River, Cumberland County. Construction is expected to begin on Route 47 northbound, before moving to Route 47 southbound. Work will take place on approximately two-mile segments at a time. Motorists are advised to follow the signed detours. Access will be maintained for residents.
This work is part of a $9.5 million state funded maintenance project that will make concrete repairs and improve pavement conditions on approximately seven miles of Route 50, ten miles of Route 47 and one mile of Route 52 in various locations across Cape May, Cumberland and Atlantic counties. This project is expected to be completed in late 2026.
Pavement preservation contracts help ensure pavement remains in a state of good repair by making repairs to improve surface conditions. This extends the operational life of the roadway, while providing a smoother and safer drive for motorists.
